Remove Metadata from ChatGPT Images

Why Remove Metadata from ChatGPT Images?
ChatGPT images contain embedded metadata, including C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) credentials that identify them as AI-generated. While transparency about AI content is valuable in some contexts, there are legitimate reasons you might want to remove this data:
- Privacy: Metadata can reveal information about when and how an image was created
- File size: Stripping metadata reduces file size
- Compatibility: Some older software struggles with newer metadata formats
- Personal projects: Using AI images for personal creative work without origin markers
How This Tool Works
This tool uses your browser’s built-in Canvas API to process images. When you upload an image:
- The file is read entirely in your browser
- It’s drawn to an HTML canvas element
- The canvas exports a new image file
This process inherently strips all metadata because the Canvas API only preserves pixel data, not file metadata. Your images never leave your device.
About ChatGPT Image Filenames
When you download images from ChatGPT, they typically have distinctive filenames like DALL·E 2024-01-15 14.32.45 - A futuristic city... that immediately identify the source. Even after stripping metadata, this filename can reveal the AI origin if you share the file.
Enable “Use generic filenames” above to rename your downloads to neutral names like img_k9m_1.png. Each batch of images gets a unique identifier so files won’t overwrite previous downloads.
Supported Formats
