Remove Metadata from Midjourney Images

Why Remove Metadata from Midjourney Images?
Midjourney images contain embedded metadata, including C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) credentials that identify them as AI-generated. While transparency about AI content is valuable in some contexts, there are legitimate reasons you might want to remove this data:
- Privacy: Metadata can include your Midjourney account details and generation parameters
- File size: Stripping metadata reduces file size
- Compatibility: Some platforms and software reject images with AI provenance markers
- Personal projects: Using AI images for personal creative work without origin markers
How This Tool Works
This tool uses your browser’s built-in Canvas API to process images. When you upload an image:
- The file is read entirely in your browser
- It’s drawn to an HTML canvas element
- The canvas exports a new image file
This process inherently strips all metadata because the Canvas API only preserves pixel data, not file metadata. Your images never leave your device.
About Midjourney Image Filenames
Midjourney images downloaded from Discord typically have filenames like username_prompt_text_hash.png that can reveal both your Discord username and part of the prompt you used. Even after stripping metadata, this filename can identify the source and creator.
Enable “Use generic filenames” above to rename your downloads to neutral names like img_k9m_1.png. Each batch of images gets a unique identifier so files won’t overwrite previous downloads.
Supported Formats
- PNG - Lossless, best for graphics and screenshots
